Hello Playbook Fam!

This week is special. What a spring it has been for middle school track and field!

Over 575 athletes across our four middle schools competed this season. They tried new events. They set personal records. They cheered for their teammates. They showed up every single day ready to work. This week, we are celebrating all of them - Goodman, Harbor Ridge, Key Peninsula, and Kopachuck.

We are also recognizing our four middle school athletic directors who worked tirelessly to create opportunities for every student-athlete. Their leadership made these seasons possible.

And we are honoring our high school spring athletes who earned postseason awards and all-league recognition. Their hard work paid off.

🏃‍♀️Time to celebrate. 🏃

🏃 MIDDLE SCHOOL TRACK & FIELD: CELEBRATING THE SEASON 🏃‍♀️

Middle school track and field is special!

It is where kids try events for the first time. Where they discover they can do things they never thought possible. Where they push through nerves and doubt and cross the finish line anyway.

It is where experienced athletes mentor younger teammates. Where kids cheer for each other even when they are tired. Where victories are celebrated together and losses are handled with grace.

This season, our four middle schools fielded over 575 track and field athletes. That is 575 kids who chose to show up, work hard, and be part of a team.

The MS District Track Meet is Wednesday, May 27 at 3:30 PM at Roy Anderson Field.
This is the final event of the middle school season - the moment these athletes have been working toward all spring. There will be no transportation provided to this event. GGX Sports will be on site selling t-shirts and sweatshirts, and 20% of all sales will go directly back to our middle school ASBs.

Time to celebrate what they accomplished!

Goodman fielded 194 track and field athletes this spring - the largest program among the four middle schools!

Coach Mlad created a video for the team that captures the teamwork and camaraderie that define Goodman track. The athletes are positive, team-oriented, and fun to watch compete. They lift each other up. They celebrate together. They represent what middle school sports should be.

This is a program built on connection, effort, and joy. And the 194 athletes who showed up this season made it unforgettable.

Key Peninsula may have had the smallest roster with 81 athletes, but what they lacked in numbers they made up for in heart.

The coaching staff shared this about the season:
"As the track and field season winds down at KPMS, we're looking back on an incredible few weeks! Students tried out new events, pushed themselves in ways they didn't think possible, and discovered just how capable they are!

Even more impressive has been the way they supported each other. Experienced athletes mentored teammates, offered encouragement, and celebrated every milestone together. The camaraderie and teamwork we've seen this season truly show what a close-knit and supportive community KPMS is.

We are so proud of every student who stepped onto the track this season. Not just for their speed or skill, but for the spirit and determination they brought every day. GO COUGARS!"

That is what middle school sports are all about. And Key Peninsula delivered.

Middle school athletics in Peninsula School District would not be what they are without the leadership, organization, and passion of our four middle school athletic directors. These administrators have worked tirelessly to create opportunities for students, support coaches, and build programs that prioritize student growth and development.

Jayme Lenker - Goodman Middle School Athletic Director

Jayme has a true passion for kids and it shows in everything she does. She jumped into this role and has been relentless in her pursuit of excellence. She is organized, positive, and kind - but she is also knowledgeable and willing to dive deep into the details to make sure things are done right. Jayme steps up to do whatever is needed, whenever it is needed. She is a true advocate for students and has worked tirelessly to create the best possible experience for every Goodman athlete. Her energy, dedication, and commitment to getting better every day make her an incredible leader for the Goodman community.

Todd Hering - Harbor Ridge Middle School Athletic Director

Todd has been the calming, steady presence that middle school athletics needed this year. He is an incredible leader who steps up to do everything - and then some. Todd is supportive of students and coaches, going above and beyond to make sure everyone has what they need to succeed. He is organized, thoughtful, and genuinely passionate about creating positive experiences for athletes. He brings energy and enthusiasm to everything he does, whether he is announcing at events (where he absolutely shines), solving problems behind the scenes, or just making people laugh when things get stressful. Todd is the kind of leader people want to work with, and Harbor Ridge is fortunate to have him.

Kim Kinney - Key Peninsula Middle School Athletic Director

Kim is known for being kind and accommodating. The students absolutely love her. Kim has stepped into the AD role with humility and a willingness to learn, approaching every challenge with a positive attitude. She works hard to make sure every athlete at Key Peninsula has what they need to succeed. Her commitment to students is evident in everything she does, and she has grown tremendously in the role this year. To watch her take on the AD responsibilities so she can continue serving students as an AP is a testament to her dedication to the Key Peninsula community.

Dawn Musgrove - Kopachuck Middle School Athletic Director

Dawn brings organization and athleticism to her role at Kopachuck! As an experienced educator, she understands what students need to succeed both in and out of competition. She stands her ground and advocates for what she believes is right for her program and her athletes. Dawn brings her perspective and voice to the work of supporting Kopachuck student-athletes.
To all four of you: thank you for everything you have done for middle school athletics this year. You truly made a difference. Our community, our student-athletes, and the author of this playbook appreciates you!

Graphic for the Peninsula High School and Gig Harbor High School Spring Sports Awards, featuring student athletes.
Postseason awards represent more than just talent.

They represent the early morning practices and the late nights at the field. The hours spent training when nobody was watching. The injuries that had to be worked through. The doubt that had to be pushed past. The mistakes that had to be learned from.

They represent the blood, sweat, and tears that go into competing at a high level.

But they also represent something bigger. They represent the families who drove to every practice, showed up to every game, and supported their athletes through the ups and downs. They represent the coaches who invested time, energy, and heart into developing these athletes - not just as competitors, but as people.

These awards belong to everyone who made the season possible.

Our high school spring athletes have been recognized for their performance this season with all-league, all-conference, and postseason honors. Congratulations to every athlete who earned recognition. Your hard work paid off. Your coaches are proud of you. Your families are proud of you. And we are proud of you.
