Posted Date: 12/12/25 (08:39 AM)

Pioneer Families,

Three student teams from Pioneer proudly represented our school at the FIRST LEGO League Unearthed regional competition held on Sunday in Tacoma. The event brought together 28 teams from across the region, spanning grades 3–8, all challenged to design a meaningful innovation project, program an autonomous LEGO robot, and demonstrate teamwork and core values.

We are excited to announce that Pioneer Team 2 won the Innovation Project Award, earning top recognition out of the entire field of teams. Judges praised the team for their creativity, research, problem-solving, and prototype development. Their project demonstrated a thoughtful and practical innovation connected to this year’s theme, Unearthed, which focused on archaeology.

Additionally, Team 3 was awarded a Finalist Innovation Project Award, placing them among the top projects presented at the event. This recognition highlights their effort, teamwork, and engineering mindset.

“Our students worked incredibly hard, showed perseverance, and demonstrated what it means to learn by doing,” said Mr Towner. “To see two teams recognized at the highest level for innovation is something we are extremely proud of.”

All three teams spent months researching archaeological problems, practicing robot programming, testing designs, and preparing presentations. Their success reflects teamwork, creativity, and dedication to STEAM learning.

Please join us in congratulating our amazing students on their accomplishments and representing our school and the PSD community with excellence.
