December Monthly Theme: Growth Mindset

This month, our school wide theme is Growth Mindset, a powerful belief that abilities and intelligence can grow with effort, good strategies, and perseverance. At Pioneer, we want students to understand that mistakes are part of learning and that challenges help their brains get stronger. Throughout the month, classrooms will spend time talking about how effort, persistence, and problem-solving are essential skills not just in school, but in life.

Teachers will be integrating growth mindset language into daily lessons—encouraging students to say “I’m still learning” instead of “I can’t do this,” to try new strategies when something feels hard, and to celebrate progress rather than perfection. You may hear students sharing reflections about times they stuck with something tough or learned from a setback. These moments build confidence and resilience that will support them all year long.

We encourage families to join us by using growth mindset phrases at home, such as “What strategy could you try next?” or “Look how much you’ve improved!” Working together, we can help students embrace challenges, take academic risks, and develop the belief that their hard work truly makes a difference. We look forward to seeing the incredible growth our Pathfinders will achieve this month!

Warmly,
Kristi Brooks, Principal
Brett Bradshaw, Deputy Principal

Robotics Team Competition
We are excited to share that our Pioneer Robotics Team will be competing in Tacoma Sunday, December 7th at the FIRST Washington Qualifier! Our students have been working hard designing, building, testing, and refining their robots, and we are incredibly proud of their teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.

Families and community members who would like more information about the event, including schedule and location details, can visit the official event page here:

We wish our Robotics Team the best of luck this weekend. Go Pathfinders!
